Santa Rosalia. The old copper minining town developed by the French.
Only one hotel has Wi-fi in the rooms. The Hotel Frances.
A brothel until the 20th century, or who knows when. Upstairs are the rooms without a view.
Entre. Everything is the original and refurbished.
Pool was added in 1948. It was too cold to use it.
Lots of relics from the mining days add charm
Chami stayed in the van, but we snuck her in at night.
Hotel is on the bluff w/view of the ocean. Tourism board is starting to fix up this part of town.
Crews touristizing this street where our hotel is.
Lovely french homes beginning to be refurbished.
Every building on our street was getting a bright coat of color.
Most of these old homes are now being used as commercial buildings.
This is the new/old museum
Spent a few minutes at the museum. Our hotel has lots of the same sort of stuff.
Note the gulf in the background. Town is right on the water but it is polluted.
Our road that leads into downtown. About 1/2 mile walk.
Church desiged by Alexander Eiffel, yes of the tower in France fame.
We think a wedding was planned
Along with its copper mining history, tourists visit to see Eiffel's church.
Downtown was clean and fun with tourists & locals
Town square. Main administrative building.
Town is pretty much this downtown area, the waterfront and the low bluff where our hotel is. Ends abruptly at desert edge.
We were pleased with how clean the town was, relatively speaking. Mostly kids on bikes, scooters and skates use the square at night.
New benches, street lamps and stamped concrete sidewalks to welcome tourists.
Lots of signs of Christmas still on display in January.
A stamped concrete intersection that even Bend and San Diego could admire.
